Interim Marketing and Communications Manager

Contract:
4-5 months (starting mid September 2009)
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 pro rata (full-time)

About Clapham Park Project

Clapham Park Project (CPP) is a government funded organisation. We were set up in 2001 as part of the Labour Government’s New Deal for Communities Programme.  CPP works with the local community on a number of initiatives to improve employment skills and prospects; tackle crime and anti-social behaviour; improve the neighbourhood and encourage resident participation in the community.

Clapham Park is located in southwest London, within the Borough of Lambeth.  It lies between Brixton, Streatham, Balham and Clapham.
The NDC area has an estimated 7,100 residents in approximately 3,200 households. The NDC site covers an area of 61.4 hectares. The western edge is formed by Clarence Avenue, Agnes Riley Gardens and Thornton Road and extends to Brixton Hill to the east.

Purpose of Role
The Interim Marketing and Communications Manager will provide an efficient marketing, events and public relations service for Clapham Park Project (CPP), and work closely with the Community Development and community radio functions of the organisation.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To write, edit and collate material for CPP’s publications, including the quarterly newsletter, Annual Report and ad hoc flyers; to source quotes from and commission design agencies and printers; to oversee the production process and to manage the distribution of print materials
  • To ensure that CPP’s PR activity is consistent with corporate standards and style
  • To write and produce electronic bulletins for staff and stakeholders, liaising with managers for content
  • To write news articles for CPP’s website and ensure that the content is updated and consistent with corporate standards and style
  • To organise and co-ordinate CPP’s community events, ensuring that their design and delivery is consistent with corporate standards and style
  • To set up and maintain efficient systems for the feedback, follow-up and evaluation of all PR/media activity and to produce and update a regular events calendar online and offline
  • To work outside office hours and at weekends as required by the project
  • To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with CPP’s equal opportunities, confidentiality and health and safety policies


Essential Requirements

At least three years’ experience of:

  • Working in a marketing environment and leading on PR activity
  • Working with a wide variety of media, including print and online
  • Using web content management systems
  • Event organisation and management
  • Managing and motivating a small team and setting work plans for staff and consultants
  • Budget control and management


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Responding effectively to media enquiries
  • Evaluating PR activity and events
  • Supporting and guiding managers for the production of PR material
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Managing contractors and maintaining effective relationships with key media, partners, marketing contacts and residents
  • Knowledge and empathy with the aims of the regeneration project
