Connecting Generations - Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour Pilot Project

Young & old people meeting imageYoung people and older adults in Clapham Park don’t always see eye to eye. The anti-social behaviour in the area means that relationships are tense and trust is an issue. So, in an effort to break down the barriers between these two groups, Clapham Park Project decided to bring them together.

The pilot project has been running special sessions for young people aged 15 to 18 and adults between 40 and 80. The aim of the project is to:

  • Let older adults air their views and personal experiences of anti-social behaviour in the area
  • Let young people share their feelings about being accused and explain how this affects their behaviour
  • Develop a better understanding between the two groups
  • Help the young people to build their skills, find work and socialise at the local youth centre

Both groups are getting on better as a result of CPP’s work and are even planning joint activities such as theatre trips, knitting, sewing and cooking.

CPP will also be working with youngsters from Richard Atkins Primary School to help them understand and develop more respect for their elders. In this thoughtful and educational project, pupils will write to older residents to find out about their past experiences living in the area.
